A PARENTS POEM
By Gail
PLEASE DON,T JUDGE US BY WHAT YOU SEE
IT,S TAKEN QUITE A WHILE
FIGHTING KICKING, PUNCHING AND RUNNING AWAY
INSIDE IT,S OUR LOVELY CHILD
"ADHD" WE HEAR THEM SAY
"WHATS THIS?" WE SAY IN DISMAY
AT THE AGE OF TWO WE KNEW
A DIFFERENCE DEEP INSIDE
NIGHTMARES, SLEEPWALKS SHARED HIS NIGHTS HE,S NOT ALL BAD YOU KNOW
A HEART OF GOLD, DOWN DEEP INSIDE
ATTENTION, PRAISE MAKE HIM GLOW
IT,S VERY HARD FOR YOU ALL TO SEE
HIS GOODNESS HELD ALL INSIDE
MY HEART HAS BROKEN MANY TIMES
WHEN PEOPLE LOOK AND JUDGE AND GLARE
"HORRID CHILD" I,VE HEARD THEM SAI,D WALK AWAY AND CRY
I,M STRONGER NOW, BECAUSE I KNOW
ADHD MAY NOT BE SEEN
IT,S A HIDDEN DISABILITY
MY CHILD WILL GO FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH
AND I,LL BE WITH HIM ALL THE WAY
