A Very Cynical Christmas

Tis that time of the year we consume to excess
Til our stomachs are full and our liver’s a mess
And we hug total strangers like friends in the street
And we make ourselves sick eating quality street

And we buy cards and presents for people who we
Cannot stand the sight of whenever we see
But we’ll welcome them readily into our home
With a brandy; then slag them off after they’ve gone

Children waiting for Santa with innocent awe
Would surely the frostiest hardest heart thaw
As they look on in wonder at all their new toys
There’s a sense of enchantment in girls and in boys

Tis the season for children of that there’s no doubt-
But the magic soon fades when the batteries run out...
