OCEAN BEACH
By Deb
Swept, choked with gusting cries and barking,
slippery bodies wriggling in ecstacy,
whiskers whiffling against gouging water
carved rocks glistening, patient giants
waiting to unwind from crouching resistance
to shift earth from them like a blanket.
Gritty sand crunches, squeaking underfoot
like mice, scuttering and fighting
to suck these feet tight against the next step
while foam skates the slatey surface,
darting quickly along the peaks
before they die with a rushing sigh.
Hissing roars push, pressing and probing
slicing through careful covers over soft flesh
to shiver and scar with needles of ice,
as we run to embrace this surging excitement,
vivid with the racing colours of life
and leap, gladly, into this dreamers beach ....
