Research into ADHD and Sensory Processing
Victoria Dunn of York St John University wrote to us... I am a PhD student with York St John University and an Occupational Therapist working in Neurodiversity services in the NHS.
My research focuses on ADHD and Sensory Processing. It is an online survey seeking to explore the lived experiences of adults with ADHD regarding sensory processes and how these may relate to participation in daily living activities.
The study is for adults with ADHD who are not currently taking ADHD-specific medication or have a diagnosis of autism. The study has been developed in collaboration with a research advisory group of adults with ADHD. Ultimately, the aim will be to develop clinical guidance. This guidance will support clinicians working with adults with ADHD in reducing barriers to participation in meaningful activities that may arise from differences in sensory processing profiles. This may for example, include sensory-based strategies and/or environmental adaptations. The study will gather valuable information directly from adults with ADHD, capturing their voices and experiences, contributing to a new characterisation of ADHD where unique sensory needs are considered.
I have included my poster and this is the current information that accompanies the posts on social media.:
Are you an adult with ADHD? Your lived experience matters.
You are invited to take part in a PhD research study exploring the sensory experiences of adults with ADHD and how these experiences may influence participation in daily living activities.
By taking part in the online questionnaires, your insights will help to ensure that the voices of adults with ADHD are represented in research and may contribute to improved awareness, understanding, and support.
