FOR ADAM.....

Please don't stop and stare at me
when his screaming reaches your ears,
Don't look at me like I'm to blame
for the look he has of fear.
Inside my heart is breaking
as you turn as if to say,
What is she doing to that child,
She deserves him taken away.
I've tried all the things that you have
with your child who likes to play
with his friends out in the school yard
and at home at the end of the day.
Nothing I did seemed to work
no matter how hard I tried,
I could find know one to listen
know one could hear how I cried.
I searched and searched for the answer
saw my health visitor and doctor too,
I found I was pulling my hair out,
I didn't really know what to do.
>From doctor to psychiatrist
maybe they could make it clear,
to help me understand my child
my flesh and blood I hold dear.
I have the answer now and
I'm learning to understand it....see!
My little boy is suffering,
It's a condition called ODD.
He can't quite grasp how to behave
or understand how he hurts his peers,
with his pinching, scratching and biting,
leaving their faces sodden with tears.
The mothers of children he's attacked
wonder if it's me!
Why can't she control her awful child,
but there's nothing wrong with me!
I'm not a bad person or mother,
But 'normal' parenting isn't enough
I'm surre that if it was your child
you'd want life smooth not 'tough'.
All I ask is your understanding,
and a little patience too,
I'm doing what I can to handle my child,
I'm doing the best that I can do.
