Bird Lady

Sitting silently
Barely moving
Possibly dead
But then she twitches
The bird that sits on her hat
Like queen sits on her throne
Shines like a diamond
Stuck in a ring
Brilliantly bright
Terribly still
Sickly looking
Her skin is chalk white
Squawking shrilly
Piercing the silence
That surrounds the one
And her bird
Pleading softly
Killing time
People passing nearby
Step sideways to avoid her
Her hunger ridden shoulders
Slouch down near her legs
Her mouldy hay-like hair
Hangs down in the gutter
The bird's beak twitches and waits
Its waiting for her to die
She can't wait to get out of here
Into a life worth living.
