ADD/ADHD - Thanet ADDers
Thom Hartmann In Margate - 5th April 1997
Thom Hartmann, a well known and respected figure in the ADD, ADHD community
came to Margate on Saturday 5th April 1997, to speak at the St.Paul's Community Trust Hall at 7.00 p.m. The talk was organised locally by Thanet ADDers as part of his nationwide tour, co-ordinated by The AD/HD Family Support Group U.K.
Thom Hartmann is the former executive director of a residential treatment facility
for abused and emotionally disturbed children, and has worked with hundreds of ADD and Hyperactive
children and adults over the past twenty years. He is the Author of several books on the subject
and his articles have been published over two hundred times in more than fifty different
national and international publications. Thom is also the founder of the ADD Forum on
Compuserve and can be reached online at thom@compuserve.com.
An excellent talk incorporating his own unique views, was heard by around 80 people. Thom was introduced by our M.P. and Patron of Thanet ADDers, Roger Gale. The two hour talk by Thom was well received by all and was followed by questions from the floor. He then chatted informally with many members of the audience afterwards.
Thom's heavy schedule meant that he was off to Brentwood, Essex, the following day. We at Thanet ADDers have received many calls from those who heard him speak, saying how much they enjoyed the talk. One mother called to say how she had started to impliment some suggested methods of behaviour management as soon as she had got home, and was already feeling pleased and revitalised. Thom said after the meeting that even if his efforts had only helped one person on the night, it was worth it. Well, Thom, if you're reading this, from the reaction we've had it appears you helped almost everyone in the audience!
Details of Thom Hartmann's books and other ADD/ADHD information can be found at his website http://www.mythical.net/. It's well worth a visit.
